Haunts like the Palace Saloon and Florida House Inn have spirits to drink, and stories of other spirits, too.  Ghost stories are in no shortage here on Amelia Island, Florida. But what about the island's ancient cemeteries, do spirits roam there?  Called "beautiful woods" by the Spanish, Bosque Bello is located off North 14th Street in Fernandina, toward Amelia Island's northwest, close to "Old Town."

Amelia Island Beach Fun Run For Schools

It’s September 11, 2009, a day to remember heroes and victims who died eight years ago.  Amelia Islanders, with others around the nation, are showing respect on 911.

Turtle Trot Helps Amelia Island's Sea Turtles

The whole family can have some fun, whether you walk or run, so turn out to help support Amelia Island's sea turtles.  The Turtle Trot is organized by the Amelia Island Runners Club.   Something for everyone: walk 1.5 miles (non-competitive), kids 10 and under can run either a half mile or one mile, and runners can choose a 5K or 10K run.

Every Saturday morning in historic Fernandina Beach people gather to mingle and shop local vegetables, fruit, baked goods, organic products, specialty foods, flowers, plants and more at the Fernandina Farmer’s Market from 9 am until 1 pm. 
It’s nice to see this community farm market of regional producers is thriving.  You can help support the Fernandina Farmer’s Market by casting your vote online in the “Love your Farmer’s Market Contest.”   Growing consumer interest in buying foods from local growers is fueling the growth of Farmer's Markets around the nation.

Symphony By The Sea, Amelia Island

Enjoy a community concert "Symphony By The Sea,"  a fundraising effort to help support the Fernandina Beach Middle School symphonic band.
The concert will be held at the new church facility, First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, at 1600 8th Street, on Saturday evening, March 28, 2009 at 7 pm. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door, and corporate sponsors are appreciated. Experience a great family event, mingle with neighbors, and enjoy an evening of music in support of these young student musicians. "Buy Nassau" -- Spend Dollars Locally, Contest

THINK BEFORE YOU SHOP, SHOP WHERE YOU LIVE!  The Amelia Island-Fernandina Beach-Yulee Chamber and sister chamber, the Greater Nassau County Chamber of Commerce are launching "Buy Nassau" with a contest to begin on March 1, 2009.  What's Buy Nassau?  It's an initiative to encourage Nassau County, Florida residents to buy locally.
