Amelia Island has an artist colony to enrich and color our lives. With about a dozen art galleries, plus resident artists as well as transient artists who pass through to capture local coastal beauty, there are plenty of folks with an appreciation of art mulling about this northeast Florida barrier island.

While visiting tourists and local folks can browse the island’s art galleries, those who are more involved in the fine arts may like to participate in an artist workshop. Amelia Island Artists Workshops offer award-winning and nationally recognized artist-instructors in all media.

Art workshops being held this summer through fall 2010 on Amelia Island include “Classical Still Life Painting,” “Painting Glass in Watercolor, ”Collage and Mixed Media,” “Watercolor Techniques for Landscape,” “Art Marketing Workshop,” a “Portraiture Workshop” and others. (See the art workshop list with dates further below…) Note that if you register early there are some “Early Bird” discounts, so visit the artist workshop website for further details.

The headquarters for the Amelia Island Artists Workshops is the Amelia SanJon Gallery. The objective of these art workshops is both business and pleasure. Come to the island to learn and create, but there will be “island time” for relaxing at the seaside, too, and networking with other artists. If you desire an opportunity to take your art to the next level, why not do it on a beautiful, serene sea island with interesting history and architecture?

AMELIA ISLAND ARTRAGEOUS ART WALKS

If you prefer to admire art rather than create it, then Amelia Island’s Artrageous Artwalks will be right up your alley. Every second Saturday, Amelia Island holds self-guided art gallery tours.  Visitors can spend a Saturday evening wandering through galleries in Fernandina Beach from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m, held each month on the second Saturday night.  Eleven Amelia Island area art galleries participate in the Artrageous Artwalks, displaying a diverse selection of art, including acrylics, copper, metals, photography, pottery, stained glass, watercolors and more.  If you’re thinking of a weekend getaway to Amelia Island, Florida, art lovers may like to keep the upcoming 2010 dates in mind when planning a visit through the summer: MAY 8, June 12, July 10; August 14; and September 11th. For more information, please call (904) 277-0717. (Of course, the art galleries have regular daytime hours, too.)
