Fernandina Beach Family Sunrise, Amelia Island

Fernandina Family Sunrise At Beach, Amelia Island, FloridaInstead of being tucked snugly in bed, a young family got up early this September Sunday morning and headed east to the beachfront on Amelia Island. And they weren’t the only ones.

A few folks took their dogs to the beach for a walk along the shore at dawn. Several couples were also present, waiting for the orange ball to appear on the horizon above the sea, that would slowly turn the pastel sky to an orange glow.

The dramatic color of the rising sun was not just in the sky. The glow rippled across the Atlantic Ocean and spilled onto the sand. It was around low tide, so the sunrise also appeared on the tidal pools, a beautiful reflection. Often at low tide, a sheer layer of sea water forms a glaze on the flat sandy surface like a mirror. This wet sand, too, was bathed in soft orange light.

Amelia Island offers 13 miles of eastern beachfront from tip to tip. Find your spot to watch the sun appear on the horizon and slowly paint the seaside with mother nature’s amazing palette of color. And don’t forget your camera. Capture some reflections. Make some memories with your family. Or just enjoy some solitude and an inspirational way to start the day on this barrier island in northeast Florida.
