It’s all about the water…Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Fernandina Beach Shrimpboat at Sunset Photo Amelia Island

For those who love the water, Fernandina Beach is a mariner’s paradise.  Whether you enjoy fishing, sailing, or cruising the waterways in a motor boat, if you’re a water bug, you’ll fit in here.  Read more about Amelia Island’s waterways, marinas, boat ramps, charter fishing, sailing, river cruises AND WATCH VIDEOS (including sunset cruises and nature cruises around this barrier island).

The west side of Amelia Island along the Amelia River is the place to be for beautiful waterfront sunsets. You’ll also see some folks lingering along the marina docks at the doorstep to Fernandina’s historic district — those who like to relax and watch the boats come and go at Fernandina Harbor Marina.

Fernandina is also for beach lovers. Across the two-mile wide island to the east, quiet sunrises are enjoyed by those who live on the beach and visitors enjoying Amelia Island’s oceanfront lodging accommodations.  Plus there are the early birds who don’t wake at the beach, but rise and head there just to see the day’s dawn.  It’s easy to find a spot with 13 miles of beachfront and numerous free public beach access points along the shoreline.  (See gorgeous Fernandina Beach sunrise photos here, at Amelia Island Living’s FACEBOOK photo album.)

Add to Amelia’s beautiful beaches, waterways, and quaint historic district in Fernandina, the bonus of shrimp boats right here in our back yard. This means fresh shrimp from local waters on plates in a day or less sometimes. Let’s put another check mark in the “good life” column, here in Fernandina Beach.

When you buy shrimp this holiday season, know what you’re getting.  Put some wild-caught shrimp on your table.  American domestic shrimpers toil at sea to catch fresh shrimp in U.S. waters, the traditional way.  But they are losing their way to earn a living to Asian imports and aquaculture (farmed shrimp, read more on this topic here). When dining out, ask for the “real” thing, wild-caught shrimp, especially here in Fernandina Beach, Florida.  (Pictured, a shrimp boat heads into Fernandina Harbor Marina at sunset.)
