Thinking about moving to Florida? Check out Amelia Island!

Amelia Island, Florida has been featured as #3 on list of “America’s Favorite Beach Towns,” by Travel & Leisure magazine (see more at end of article).

Amelia Island is not just a great place to visit, it’s also a wonderful place to live if you’re looking for small town ambience and the beach lifestyle. For those with kids, the local Nassau County, Florida public school district earns good grades in the state of Florida (of 67 counties). Nassau County is “an A-rated district for 8 years in a row and ranked 1st in the state for highest graduation rates and lowest dropout rates by the Florida Department of Education.” More school and county demographic data is available at the Nassau County, FL Economic Development Board.

For those relocating from a state with income taxes, most will be delighted to keep more earnings, since there’s no income tax in the state of Florida. The limited options for moving to a place with no state income tax in the U.S. are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. Especially for those fed up with colder weather, Florida shines for its beaches and mild climate. Take a look at the scenic beauty of Amelia Island, FL and its riverfront city, Fernandina Beach in photo gallery below. As far as location, Amelia Island is near the Florida-Georgia border, and offers easy access to one of the best “low-stress” international airports in the nation, Jacksonville International Airport (JAX).

Surrounded by waterways, it’s a boating and fishing playground. Plus, for the outdoorsy type who also like to bike, hike, bird, camp and spend as much time as possible outside in nature, logistics is another great benefit of local lifestyle. Cumberland Island National Seashore (the “gem” of Georgia) is just off Amelia Island’s northern tip (see Cumberland photos below).

The Talbot Islands (Florida State Parks) are undeveloped islands that sit off Amelia’s southern doorstep, just over the Nassau Sound bridge. This is one terrific neighborhood of barrier islands!

Amelia Island Quotable…

“We live in a place where people — from all over — spend their vacations. Our area has been recognized by top magazines across the country as a coveted tourist and retirement destination (that’s why the Ritz-Carlton Hotel group chose to come here, isn’t it?). Sprinkle in 13 miles of beaches, endless inland waterways and rivers, and a historic downtown in Fernandina Beach, and you have prize-winning and motivating recipe — for living, playing and working.” Well said by Amelia Island resident and columnist, Steve Nicklas, in “Counting Blessings, Amelia Island. Live, Play, Work on Florida Resort Island,” (published previously in Amelia Island Living eMagazine).
