New Restaurant Opening On Amelia Island
In 2010 Executive Chef Kenny Gilbert was seen on TV, braving BRAVO’s “Restaurant Wars” challenge in the “Top Chef D.C.” competition.
However, way back in the 90s, he was here on Amelia Island at the Ritz in its early days. By 1997, Gilbert was “Chef de Cuisine” at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island’s restaurant, The Grill.
Now in 2015, Chef Kenny Gilbert has chosen Fernandina Beach for his latest new venture, opening in March.
Southern Hospitality Plus International Cuisine Specials
Chef Kenny Gilbert “brings seasonal Southern neighborhood dining to Fernandina Beach,” plus international flavor in his new restaurant, Gilbert’s Underground Kitchen (904)310-6374. International specials will feature Italian, Asian, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Indian, Latin, etc., “based on his travels and career.”
The eatery, occupying the building at corner of Elm and 8th Street, will also host invited chefs who will create menu specials (the restaurant will be a “culinary think tank for local and traveling talent”).
