Amelia Island has earned a wonderful reputation for its gorgeous, challenging golf courses! While this barrier island in northeast Florida is only about 2 miles wide and 13 miles long, it boasts six golf courses plus two more just off the island, offering golfers a variety of play.
Amelia Island is a golfer’s haven, offering many choices of championship-quality courses and resort-style, golf club living on the coast. Conveniently located only 30 minutes from the Jacksonville International Airport, Amelia Island is an easy access golf and beach getaway on the U.S. Atlantic east coast.
The largest golf resort is Amelia Island Plantation (AIP) 904-261-6161, with 54 championship holes at Oak Marsh, Ocean Links, and Long Point. AIP is the winner of many awards, including being named a “Silver Medal Golf Resort” every year by Golf Magazine. Both golf club members who own property within the resort as well as guests booking rooms at the hotel on the property (owned and operated by Omni Resorts and Hotels) or “the Villas” at AIP, can play the courses. Amelia Island Plantation is also known for its excellent golf instruction at Amelia Island Plantation Golf Academy.
Winding through natural coastal hammock, the Ocean Links vistas are spectacular, with five golf holes on the oceanfront, fairways and greens parallel to the beach. Golf Digest ranked the female-friendly Ocean Links golf course in the top three American golf courses for women.
Long Point, Tom Fazio’s creation, is an 18-hole layout designed distinctly among marshlands and the towering sand dunes of the Atlantic. Long Point is AIP’s Club Member primary course but resort guests can reserve tee times one day in advance. For those seeking a golf club community lifestyle, Long Point offers estate homes along the course, resort-style living on the Amelia riverfront.
Also on the riverfront is the Amelia River Golf Club (904)491-8500, a Tom Jackson designed golf course featuring TifEagle greens in a very natural setting lined with ancient live oak trees (no homes are built along the course unlike other golfing communities).
