Back for an encore, the 2nd annual Amelia Island Garden Show in Fernandina Beach is in the spotlight March 5 – 6, 2011 at Fernandina’s Central Park on Atlantic Avenue. Last year was a smashing success for its debut, with thousands of people attending during the 2-day event.

Produced by the folks who run the Fernandina Farmer’s Market, the Amelia Island Garden Show will be open from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday March 5th and 9 am to 4pm on Sunday. Many Farmer’s Market vendors will also be present, in addition to other gardening experts coming to Amelia Island for this special show. Amelia Island Garden Show adult admission is $2 per person, kids 12 and under are free.

There’s something for everyone at this outdoor event. Flowers, plants, vegetables, herbs, trees, plus garden accessories. How about some fresh mint for the upcoming Mojito season, delightful on those hot, balmy summer days? (Mint purchased last year at the Garden Show is still producing a luscious crop, planted in a container.) Mint is nice to pop into iced tea, too.

Food concessions also offer a selection of bites and beverages. Getting plants and other purchases back to the car is a breeze, too. Once again, the Venturer crew of the Boy Scouts will offer their “Tote & Carry” service at the show to help assist folks transport purchases to the designated “Pick-Up Area.” (Donations, tips will be accepted by this youth group to help support their organization.)

The Amelia Island Garden Show will also feature on-site experts offering advice. Presentations and demonstrations are on the agenda both days, including workshops on orchids, container gardening and the benefits of using native plants in your landscape. The special “Raptor Experience” allows visitors to get up close to birds of prey.

Also be sure to buy a $1 raffle ticket for a chance to win a wonderful gift basket with lots of goodies (five baskets will be raffled). For much more about the vendors and schedule of events, visit the Amelia Island Garden Show website.
