When thinking of Florida, what comes to mind? Usually beaches, sunshine, and oranges. But how about the world’s first vodka made from oranges? Where better than Florida, top producer of orange juice, to squeeze out another fruit-based product to quench thirst?
Get a taste of Florida oranges with a product distilled in the sunshine state from its signature crop, 4 Orange Premium Vodka. It’s not orange “flavored” vodka, but rather vodka made from Florida oranges, fresh from the groves. Not to be confused with all those citrus-flavored spirits, try an authentic orange-based vodka. Each 750 ml bottle of 4 Orange Premium Vodka contains around 20 Florida oranges, according to the Florida-based company, Imperial Brands (see “Orange Crush” cocktail recipe below –shake up some oranges with ice, soon. ).
THE SPIRIT OF FLORIDA
With the hot culinary trend of farm to table and popularity of consuming more locally-sourced food, this non-imported, regional vodka from Florida’s groves is sure to please plenty of Floridians. (But it’s also available in other markets around the country.)
So how is the world’s only orange-distilled vodka crafted? The Lake Alfred-based Florida Distillers gets fresh orange molasses (made from pulp) pumped in from a plant right next to the distillery. The vodka is produced from four varieties of oranges – Valencia, Temple, Parson Brown and Hamlin and it’s all orange and all natural. Wonder what “The Waltons” Baldwin sisters would think of this “recipe”?
The most famous American spirit manufactured in a U.S. state is Tennessee’s Jack Daniels whiskey. In fact, Jack has the oldest registered distillery in America.
But if you’re seeking to quench your thirst on a hot summer day, try the spirit of Florida, the 80-proof 4 Orange Premium Vodka. A product actually made in America right in the Sunshine State, at Florida’s oldest distillery, now owned by Imperial Brands of Palm Beach Gardens.
Sea oats and sand dunes. Swim suit and towel. Sun glasses and sun block. They’re natural companions, like vacations and libations. So when at a beach escape or island getaway, think of Florida oranges and the state’s homemade vodka. Locally, folks can purchase 4 Orange vodka at Amelia Liquors North (near Publix in Fernandina Beach, at $26.99). The bottle is tall and sleek with a round “window” view of an orange tree. (See the “Orange Crush” cocktail recipe below, perfect for poolside or seaside sipping. Or keep it simple — just pour vodka over ice and garnish with an orange twist). With its natural citrus taste, this vodka certainly puts a new meaning on “getting juiced up.”
