Amelia Island’s Most Prestigious, Glamorous Event

Cars from some of the world’s most prominent corporate, public and private collections will be on display this weekend on Amelia Island, Florida. Amelia Island’s most prestigious event of the year, the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance will be held March 9-11, 2012 on the 10th and 18th fairways of The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach adjacent to The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. The honoree for 2012 will be rally and endurance racing legend, Vic Elford.

World’s Most Prominent Corporate, Public, and Private Car Collections to be on Display at the 17th Annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance
 
The “Who’s Who” of Automotive Lifestyle, Business, Entertainment, Celebrities and Legendary Collectors to be in Attendance March 9 – 11, 2012
 
Amelia Island, Florida (March 5, 2012) – Often referred to as the “most innovative concours,” the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is once again set to be a must-attend event, as cars from some of the world’s most prominent corporate, public and private collections will be on display at the 17thannual event (March 9-11, 2012).

Major corporations have long-participated at the Amelia Island Concours, but this year, companies including Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are all bringing significant cars from their own core museums for display on the show field. Attendees can expect to see a Porsche 917 L/H that hails all the way from the Porsche Museum in Stuggart, Germany, two BMW race cars that will be part of the 60th Anniversary of the 12 hours of Sebring display, a 1934 Ford Model 40 Special Speedster brought in from the Ford House Collection and a 1999 Dodge Viper from the Chrysler Museum. General Motors will round out the corporate collections with six cars, ranging from a 1961 Corvette Mako Shark concept to a 2001 Chevrolet Corvette C5-R.

Several of the world’s leading public and private museums are also scheduled to bring cars for display, including a 1953 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe by Ghia from Southern California’s Petersen Automotive Museum, a 1936 Duesenberg J-577 Landaulet Limousine from the Cussler Museum in Arvada, Col., a 1935 Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster from the Kemp Auto Museum, and a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette from the Lingenfelter Collection. A 1964 Cobra Daytona Coupe from the Larry Miller Group in Tooele, Utah will also be on display, along with several special Corvettes from the Mid America Motorworks collection in Effingham, IL. The Bortz Auto Collection, the Detroit Historical Society, the Nethercutt Collection, the Mecum collection and the Collier Collection, will also be bringing vehicles.

“We couldn’t be more thankful to those who participate at our event each year, and we’re thrilled to have attracted such a high caliber of display cars for this year’s show,” said Amelia Island Concours Chairman, Bill Warner. “We only hope to continue growing and attracting even more unique collections from our friends all around the world.”

Several celebrities are also scheduled to appear, including Indy 500 Champion, Johnny Rutherford and Award winning actor, Edward Herrmann. Both will be part of the Concours’ judging team and are tasked with the difficult job to choose this year’s winners. Other notable celebrities will be in attendance, but attendees will have try and spot them or their cars on the field!
