Amelia Island October Events: Jazz & Wine Festivals, Car Show, Florida/Georgia Football

With summer’s hottest days gone, October greets islanders and visitors with welcomed mild temps and less humidity.

Still warm enough to spend time at the beach, October is an ideal month to be outdoors in nature.

It’s a perfect time of year to explore Amelia’s two outstanding Florida State Parks: Fort Clinch State Park and Amelia Island State Park.

The biggest event weekend each fall is actually about a grudge match. The huge college football rivalry between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs brings a tidal wave of football fans washing over Amelia Island.

Like the froth spilling out when a champagne bottle pops, Jacksonville’s “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” overflows onto Amelia Island during the game weekend. Fun loving, diehard football fans arrive with high hopes for their teams and eager for a great time.

Amelia Island Jazz Festival — October 6-13, 2013 — “Best selling jazz-fusion alto saxophonist Mindi Abair and popular swing masters, The Royal Crown Revue, are the headliners of this year’s Festival.” Kicking off the week’s events on October 6th is “The Spare Rib Six,” a New Orleans-style Jazz Band (with Les DeMerle & Bonnie Eisele & Special Guests) at David’s Restaurant & Lounge. A free concert, JAZZ IN THE PARK, will also be held on Sunday, October 6th at Amelia Park from 4 to 6 pm featuring the TGIF U.S. Navy Jazz Band. Amelia Island Wine Festival — October 12, 2013 — The 2nd Annual Wine Festival is being held this year at the shopping village within Omni Amelia Island Plantation. Featuring wines of Florida and the Southern Hemisphere — Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Chile and South Africa. Featured restaurants preparing food for the event are the Verandah, Espana, Barzin Bistro and Ciao. Wine and food tasting tickets purchased in advance are $50 ($60 at door).

8 Flags Car Show, Centre Street, Fernandina — October 19, 2013 — Presented by Amelia Cruizers, the 17th Annual 8 Flags Car Show will be held along historic Centre Street in downtown Fernandina from 8 am to 4 pm. Free to the public, enjoy this Saturday fall event browsing a large display of beautiful classic cars. Plan an excursion to stroll the street and also hit the downtown Farmer’s Market that is held every Saturday 9 am to 1 pm.

Tour Americal Classic Car Display — Oct. 13, 14, 15, 2013 – A smaller display of classic cars — 50 to 60 per day — vehicles shipped to the USA from Belgium, will also be along Fernandina’s Centre Street (between Front & 4th Street) for a limited time (10 am to noon each day). Florida/Georgia Football Game Weekend — November 1-2, 2013 — The biggest football event of the year, the Florida/Georgia game is hosted by Jacksonville, Florida at Everbank Field and will take place this year on Saturday, November 2, 2013. CBS is broadcasting the game starting at 3:30 pm. Georgia has won the last two games. Amelia Island hosts lots of football fans over the festive weekend. Enter contest for chance to win a 2-night stay at Omni Amelia Island Plantation and two tickets to the Florida/Georgia game. On Friday, November 1, 2013 from 5 to 10 p.m., Omni Amelia Island Plantation is having a pre-game Block Party with live music, food and drink specials, football toss, archery, corn hole, miniature golf, kid’s zone with bounce house, and more.
