The number of Amelia Island sea turtle nests through June 30, 2019 has shattered the previous nesting record set back in 2016 for the same time period through June, and by quite a lot.
The Wild Amelia Nature Festival features a sea turtle release at Fernandina’s Main Beach. The centerpiece event is the Eco-Expo at Rec Center. Plus fun eco tours at various venues including Egans Greenway, boat cruises on the river, and kayaking adventures.
See photos and video about dredging process and sand placement at Fernandina Beach, Fort Clinch, and Amelia Island State Park.
Attend a turtle dig during the summer. Nest excavations are narrated by a volunteer, very educational for the young and old alike, and a great coastal nature experience worth attending!
